What’s New
Entler, now in NYC!
This time of year, things tend to want to be half way in shadow. It speaks to a certain paradoxical aspect of the human condition; The park is the prettiest part of the city. Sunset is the nicest time of day. By dressing as someone else, we reveal something about ourselves. Shadows seem like darkness, but the truth is, they can only be made by light. Life is full of apparent paradoxes.
One day, not so long ago, Kim was re-arranging Le Marché in the Gallery at 200 Lex, contemplating some of the heady thoughts expressed above, and a light bulb went off in her mind. The night is darkest before the dawn, the sweet is never so sweet without the sour, life is not defined by paradox, it's defined by contrast! Then she fluffed up a (very chic looking) pillow and decided we need more light (and shadow) in Le Marché - NYC.
Enter Entler. Designed and manufactured in Los Angeles, we are so proud to be bringing Entler's incredible lamps and fixtures to our NYC Showroom, Le Marché. As beautiful as the light they cast, these ceramic illuminators are playful and elegant and they add the perfect bit of pop to these eerie October evenings as you contemplate the deep mysteries of existence or what might be lurking in that shadow.

What We’re LOVING
On the SCREEN
A Haunting in Venice
Directed by Kenneth Branagh
Speaking of mysteries...A cursory glance might suggest that this film has little more to offer than inspiration for Laurent's halloween costume, but the biggest surprise in this twisty turny mystery is that it's one of the best films of year.
While it's likely not obscure or off-putting enough to merit award recognition, A Haunting in Venicetruly offers everything one could want from a film. A dreamy setting, a compelling mystery, fascinating characters, masked figures in the shadows, big heady themes, thrills, chills, laughter, with a touch of the macabre. And it's timely!
Kenneth Branagh returns as Hercule Poirot, who's powers of deduction are matched only by Branagh's powers of direction, as he expertly steers the gondola of this film through misty canals and winding alleyways of a tightly woven plot with obvious glee and panache. This is exactly what movies are meant to be.
Go, and get caught in the rising tide of this wonderful mystery before it falls into the sea.
On the PAGE
Roald Dahl’s Book of Ghost Stories
This is the perfect set of stories to cozy up with on a cool October night. Dahl makes a clear distinction here between a ghost story and a horror story. The stories he has collected here are all emphatically the former. While some of these specters do have ill intent, many do not, and the overall sense is one of the uncanny, not the terrifying.
Subtle, nuanced, original, and brief, Dahl's favorite ghosts are shopkeepers with guilty consciousnesses, ailing writers, and protective older brothers, not monsters. And the tales are all masterfully crafted.
Ultimately, each ghost can be understood as a shade of some aspect of the human experience. In this way, Dahl's stories, much like Entler, help us shed light on ourselves, even while casting the occasional creepy shadow.
Available from our local independent bookstore here.
Featured Artist: Jonathan Entler
And like many a good story, at the end, we find ourselves back at the beginning. Our featured artist this month is, of course, Jonathan Entler, founder of Entler studio and chief designer. His Los Angeles based studio produces a full line of lamps and fixtures in his signature, dare we say, uncanny, style. Are they ever so slightly otherworldly looking to you too, or is that just the mood we're in this month?
In any case, we adore them, and you will too!
See for your self in person at the Entler Studio in Los Angeles and at Le Marché - NYC in the Gallery at 200 Lex!
If these shadows have offended...
...Picture this, and all is mended: Laurent, dressed as Hercule Poirot.
That's all for now! But we'll be back next month, with more comfort, culture, and style. Until then...
Stay Chic,
Kimberly + Laurent
